Glycolic Acid
What it does in our skin?
Glycolic acid, the most popular of Alpha Hydroxy Acids
(AHAs), has a low molecular weight, allowing it to penetrate
deep skin levels.
In low concentrations, it hydrates, while higher concentrations make it a potent exfoliator, stimulating cell renewal and aiding in anti-aging, dyschromias, and acne treatment.
With a pKa of 3.83, it dissociates quickly above pH 3.
Effectiveness depends on formulation pH rather than concentration, using it in too acidic mediums may cause skin irritation, making it unsuitable for sensitive areas.
